Fire crews have now cleared the scene of a three-alarm blaze at the Volker Stevin yard at 69 Street and 112 Avenue N.W.
Assistant Deputy Chief Michael O’Reilly tells 660News, the fire took a lot of effort to put out, since it was very intense at one point and required a lot of water and foam.
The most difficult part was getting close enough to actually tackle it and shut off the fuel source to it. At that point, ATCO and Enmax were called in to shut off power and gas to the structure.
As many as 30 firefighters were called to the scene. The fire is being blamed on equipment malfunction.
No estimate on the cost of damage just yet.
