Speculation is running rampant that British Petroleum will announce a new CEO ahead of releasing its second quarter results Tuesday.
Current boss, Tony Hayward has been under attack ever since the Gulf oil leak began back on April 20th.
Hayward made a number of gaffes while trying to manage BP operations.
At one point he stated, “I’d like my life back “.
This past weekend he was participating in a yacht race off the coast of England, while oil spill relief workers were in the Gulf of Mexico tackling the worst environmental disaster in US history.
Terry Macalister with the Guardian in the UK says negotiating Hayward’s payout package is holding up the announcement.
Macalister says he’s been told that Hayward, who has the nickname “Tony Baloney” will be given at least one year of salary and a £10-million pension pot.
As for Hayward’s successor, the company’s Managing Director, 54-year-old Bob Dudley is expected to be given the job.
Dudley is an American who helped protect BP assets in Russia even after he was barred from the country.
The Financial Times reports Hayward might stay on until later this summer, overseeing the completion of the drilling of relief wells designed to permanently stopped the leak in the Gulf.
