Council might be done but Administration is not

While the current session of the latest city council might be over, administrators are hard at work.

City administration has been told to find some $60-million in budget savings.

The spending reduction is needed in order to maintain the projected 6.7 per cent tax increase for 2011.

The only department that has been sparred the budget axe is the police department. That budget has already been pre-approved.

The chair of the finance committee, Alderman Gord Lowe says outside of police all other areas of growth spending are being removed from the next financial blueprint.

Lowe says while he can’t pre-judge what administration will present in November, he’s hopefully like previous years savings will be found.
