Summer storm closes Sikome Lake

Calgarians wanting to cool off at Sikome Lake will have to find a new swimming spot for now.

The popular lake in Fish Creek Provincial Park has been shut down for at least two weeks after suffering damage from Monday’s summer storm.

Jennell Rempel, a spokeswoman with the park, tells 660News they have had a lot of disappointed Calgarians show up for a dip this week and that’s why they are trying to get word out about its closure.

The storm damaged the beach, security fencing and nearly 200 trees in the park.

The lake’s water treatment plant has been shutdown because of leaves covering the beach and water.

Some of the pathways and parking lots around the lake have also been closed.
