Airdrie fire blamed on oily rags

The cause of a fire Wednesday in Airdrie is being blamed on rags with linseed oil, which had been applied to the deck of the house on Tuesday. Airdrie Fire Chief Chuck D’Amico tells 660News, heat from the sun caused a thermal reaction of rags with oil. The brushes, rags and other materials had been left in a plastic bucket to dry and be disposed of later. The heat from the sun then caused a thermal reaction. The fire spread to the deck, then the house and caused $300,000 dollars worth of damage. The two adjacent homes sustained minor damage. No one was hurt in the blaze.
