Most people run away from tornadoes but a unique brand of people scurry to get a closer look.
They’re called storm chasers.
Some are professionals and others are just amateurs looking for a thrill.
It’s been a busy couple of months with a number of storms in Alberta this summer and even the occasional twister.
Local chaser Kris Fernet tells 660News he does it to pit himself against nature, something that nobody else can control.
But he cautions that if you don’t know what you are doing out there, you can get into real trouble in a hurry.
He saw many people Friday night directly in harm’s way.
Storm chasers say the hail that usually accompanies tornadoes can be as dangerous, or more treacherous than the twister itself.
