Complaints against nurses up sharply

Alberta nurses got a record number of complaints last year.

The body governing the province’s registered nurses got 163 complaints in 2009, compared with 152 in 2008 and 104 in 2007.

The complaints ranged from swiping drugs for personal use to falsifying records and making medical mistakes.

The College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta tells the Calgary Herald the jump is partly because there’s more nurses practicing in the province.

There are about 33,000 nurses working in Alberta.
