Police discipline process probed

The province wants to reform what it calls the “broken” process that deals with public complaints against police officers.

The Calgary Herald reports a recent Solicitor General discussion paper says it takes too long for investigations, discipline and in some cases appeals of the discipline to be handed down.

The paper cites one case that took more than a decade to exhaust all appeals.

One idea being put forward to streamline the process involves using mediation to handle minor complaints against officers rather than holding formal hearings.
