Fire devastates Cranston homes

Three homes have been destroyed by a massive fire in Cranston.

The blaze broke out around 2:35 a.m. Wednesday on Cranridge Cr., SE.

Neighbours say they heard popping sounds and looked outside to see a pick-up truck and a garage up in flames.

The fire quickly spread to the rest of the house as well as the two homes on either side.

Some saw the flames shoot a hundred feet in the air as ash and embers came down on the whole community. The heat was so intense it melted vinyl siding across the street and could be felt down the street.

When crews arrived, several homes were immediately evacuated.

People who live in the area say two couples from Quebec live in the home where the fire began. A family of four and a young couple live in the other two homes.

Thankfully everyone got out of their homes without any injuries.

The damage is estimated at more than $2-million and Calgary Fire says all three homes will likely have to be torn down and rebuilt.

Fire investigators still don’t know the cause of the blaze.
