Several trails and backcountry campgrounds in Banff National Park remain closed after a cyclist was charged by a bear on the long weekend.
The cyclist was riding on Minnewanka Lakeshore Trail when he came too close to the mama grizzly and her two cubs.
The bear charged and the 40-year-old man hid behind some tree’s before the grizzly wandered off.
Park wardens say the bear was simply protecting her cubs so they won’t be taking any action, though they have closed the Minnewanka lakeshore and Aylmer pass trails and six backcountry campgrounds while they ensure they are safe.
