A Calgary judge has refused to grant bail to a man charged with the attempted murder of an RCMP officer.
Seargeant Andrew Johnson was stabbed at the downtown Calgary headquarters of the province’s police investigative unit, ASIRT, in early June.
A Calgary police officer also suffered minor injuries as he tried to help his colleague.
29-year-old Lee Christopher Monrose remained expressionless as the judge denied him bail, as his mother watched from the gallery.
The defence had asked for Monrose to be granted bail on the condition that he be fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet and be placed under house arrest where he would be supervised by his mother.
The Crown argued that wasn’t good enough, because the bracelet can be removed and doesn’t act as a tracking device in the event Monrose left his house.
