The RCMP are now in charge of what’s become a recovery mission off the coast of Cape Breton.
The Mounties are investigating the disappearance of two Calgary men whose plane went missing.
Ronald Johnston, 57, was flying the plane when it went off radar screens in bad weather late Thursday. The plane was also carrying Dennis Forgeron, the CEO of Calgary-based oil and natural gas company Forent Energy.
The rescue portion of the search was called off Saturday afternoon. Lt. Edward Stansfield of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax says no trace had been found of the two men or the Cessna.
The twin-engine, eight-seat plane was on a direct flight from Buttonville Airport, north of Toronto, to Sydney.
Stansfield adds the centre estimated survivability at 33 hours, which passed at 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
