Alberta number one for mining

Move over Quebec, when it comes to the best mining jurisdictions on the planet, Alberta is now number one.

In a recent survey of mining executives around the world, Alberta was named the most attractive jurisdiction for mineral exploration and development.

Fred McMahon with the Fraser Institute says the recent roll back in energy royalty rates in Alberta had nothing to do with the results.

“Alberta pretty much got hammered in our petroleum survey which is very similar to our mining survey, but in the mining survey it’s (Alberta) always done relatively well.”

Quebec has enjoyed the best mining jurisdiction for the past three years has now slipped to third place overall.

According to the survey, Tasmania is the worst place to mine.
