The kids might be running through the lawn sprinkler or enjoying a popsicle right now, but in a few weeks they’ll be in their chairs with pencils firmly in hand.
Back to school shopping season is here and retailers are getting prepared for their second busiest time of year.
James Moller with CrossIron Mills tells 660News they’re ready for the rush.
“It is very important, the retailers know that,” he says. “They started to prepare their stores and merchandise in July.”
While some recent surveys show Canadians are looking to spend less money this back to school shopping season, Mark Beazley with the Retail Council of Canada tells 660News that’s not likely to happen here.
“Retail sales in Alberta have actually held relatively stable over the last few months compared to the rest of Canada,” he says. “So they’re looking forward to a fairly good season.”
He says they’re expecting a three to five percent uptick in sales over last year.
