Glowing lights on the Bow

The Bow River will be lit up this week.

Around two dozen floating bulbs are in place in the lagoon near Prince’s Island Park.

The giant ping pong balls are actually data spheres and are about 1.2 metres in diameter and are meant to represent the river’s water sources.

This Saturday, about 500 of the coloured spheres will be released at dusk for “The River of Light” event.

The public art co-ordinator with the city says the display is meant to draw attention to the Bow River as a precious resource.

The event has been in the planning stages for more than a year.

A smaller version of the display floated on the River Thames in 2008.
