Alberta birds threatened by BP spill

Some birds that call Alberta their winter home could take years to recover from the BP oil spill.

Species including ducks, geese and pelicans fly to the Gulf of Mexico for the summer and if they come in contact with even a little bit of oil, it can prove deadly.

Conservation Biologist Pat Kehoe, tells the Calgary Sun the overall impact won’t be known until the spill is over but the situation is of significant concern. He says the oil spill shows the importance of having better safety measures to preserve habitats.
