One of the senior members of the tiger family at the Calgary Zoo is ailing.
15-year old female “Kita” is being treated for a serious chest infection.
Earlier this week staff noticed she was lethargic and not eating, and she was sent for diagnostic testing where more than litre of fluid was drained from her chest cavity.
Senior Veterinarian Dr. Doug Whiteside says Kita is not a stranger to the vet staff with her history of health problems over the past five years, and will be given around the clock care.
The infection is not believed to be contagious. Kita is back in the tiger enclosure
She’s been at the Calgary Zoo since 1996, when she was just one-year old.
