Alberta Flood Aid Slow Coming

More than two months after massive flooding around Medicine Hat, just a quarter of disaster relief claimants have received cheques from the province.

The premier had promised two hundred million dollars in flood compensation, earmarked for rebuilding municipal infrastructure and helping home owners and small businesses rebuild.

But residents of Irvine say the cash that is coming is too little and coming too slowly.

The mayor of Medicine Hat says the city will put in a claim for forty million dollars to the province’s disaster recovery program.

Norm Boucher says to substantiate the city’s claim, the submitted report, is long and includes photos.

He says a bridge that was washed out  was old and current standards for new bridges are much higher and more costly.
