Fraud acquittal upheld

The province’s top court has upheld the acquittal of an Edmonton lawyer accused of being involved in one of Alberta’s biggest-ever mortgage frauds.

Scott Park was one of six people charged in the $30-million scam and the only one who wasn’t convicted.

The Calgary Herald reports the decision to uphold the acquittal was unanimous.

The scheme involved a client of Park’s, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to 54 counts of fraud.

Prosecutors argued that Park had to have known about what his client was doing, but the appeal court did not agree.
