Distracting roadside memorials may become a thing of the past in Calgary.
The city has unveiled a new program that would see an engraved metal band installed on a street lamp instead.
It’s called Halo, or Honour A Loved One.
The new metal bands, at a cost to the family of $200, would offer a way to remember those lost more permanently.
Roadside memorials are allowed in the city for a year, then they have to be taken down.
Other options for a permanent memorial include a park bench or planting a tree.
