Sick days go up for city firefighters

Calgary Firefighters are taking twice as many sick days, then they were five years ago, according to last year’s annual fire report.

Calgary Fire Department spokesman Brian McAsey tells 660News, five years ago a new reporting system was put into place involving a WCB audit system, where they have to report even the smallest injury.

A new wellness centre in Midnapore has also led to the increases, dedicated to physical training, diagnostic services and ongoing training for firefighters.

McAsey says despite the numbers, the fire department has the lowest sickness and injury rates in the city.
