An elderly man has been critically injured, and four children hurt in a crash that closed part of highway #1 in Strathmore Friday afternoon.

RCMP say the man was the driver of a small car involved in a collision with an SUV at the corner of highway #1 and George Freeman trail in Strathmore around 1:30 in the afternoon.

He was airlifted by STARS to Foothills hospital.  The four children in the SUV were taken to the Strathmore hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The westbound lanes of the highway were temporarily closed.
