Police shed more light on possible sexual assault

Police are shedding more light on a possible sexual assault in a northeast school yard on Labour Day afternoon.

Investigators say the possible victim, a 12-year-old girl and the suspect, a 16-year-old boy, met online last week through a social networking site.

Police also say, while eight other teenagers were sitting in the bleachers outside Clarence Sansom School, the group wasn’t videotaping, taking pictures or cheering on the assault of the young girl.

She is now recovering at home and has not yet talked with police.

Investigators don’t know at this point if the girl gave her consent or if she lied about her age to the boy, but regardless, the incident is considered a sexual assault because a 12-year-old can not consent to sex unless the other person is with in two years of age.

The boy has been released to his parents care and charges are pending.

Police say all 10 youth had been drinking alcohol.
