Calgary mayoral candidate Craig Burrows has announced an aggressive plan to try turn the city’s transit fleet green.
The former alderman wants to convert the engines in buses and other transit vehicles to use natural gas for fuel.
Burrows tells 660News it wouldn’t just be good for the environment but would also help the economy.
He says the initial costs would be covered by federal and provincial grants and after that, he says, the savings on fuel would fund the rest of the program.
Burrows estimates it would take 10 years to fully switch the fleet.
