Drivers in Calgary’s southwest will breathe a sigh of relief this weekend.
Big changes on Glenmore Trail begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday, when the interchange on Glenmore Trail and 37th Street SW opens.
That means Glenmore Trail will be free flowing from Ogden Road in the southeast all the way to Highway 8 in the southwest.
The area’s Alderman Brian Pincott tells 660News people in his ward have been eagerly awaiting the end of construction.
The upgrade is part of the eventual southwest leg of Calgary’s ring road.
But a city of Calgary spokesman says there is still a lot of work to be done with some overnight closures but construction should be wrapped up by the end of October.
“Despite the inclement weather the city has experienced this year, both the project team and the construction crews have been moving forward swiftly on this project,” said Director of Transportation Infrastructure Gordon Stewart. “The removal of these traffic signals means Calgarians can now drive from Sarcee Trail to Ogden Road, without encountering a single traffic signal.”
The bridge is considered recyclable because it can be taken apart and used in other city projects.
