Disaster relief program expanded

The province is loosening up the purse strings for disaster relief funding.

The government is lifting the limit for yearly gross revenue from $5-million to $15-million.

The hope is that more farmers and businesses impacted by June’s flooding in southern Alberta will qualify for assistance.

The Stelmach government has also eliminated the gross annual income restriction for farmers along with restrictions on the number of employees that an operation can employ.

The program changes are retroactive to July 1st.

In a release, Minister Hector Goudreau encouraged all those who haven’t applied for relief to do so under the new guidelines.
