Glitch leaves students in lurch

Some relief is on the way for Alberta students who haven’t received funding from the province because of a computer glitch.

The Calgary Herald reports, the Minister of Employment and Immigration says emergency cheques will be cut in the next few days.

Alberta Works, which handles the applications, says they should all be dealt with in the next six to eight weeks.

Lynn Connell with Bow Valley College tells the Herald, it’s been so serious they’ve launched a food drive to help students still waiting for funding.

Hundreds of students have been left in the lurch across the province, with the delay in processing funding leaving some unable to pay for child care or even the rent.

Some are even facing eviction.
