Budget cuts could lead to library closures

The Calgary Public Library may close branches on Sundays or one weeknight a week throughout next year because of the city’s big budget shortfall.

A library spokesperson says the closures would be necessary to meet its share of city wide budget cuts.

The city’s Chief Financial Officer tells The Calgary Herald city hall’s revenue shortfall could be even worse than a previously forecast $60-million.

The library may also delay opening the complete Saddletowne facility and cut some of its programs for seniors and children to find more savings.
