Minimum wage being reviewed

MLA’s from all parties are set to meet Wednesday to see if Alberta’s minimum wage should be raised.

The provincial committee will go over about half a dozen recommendations following a review requested by the employment minister in February.

A spokesman for Vibrant Communities Calgary tells The Calgary Herald they’re looking for the province to raise base pay from $8.80 to $12.25 an hour.

He says that at $15,000 a year, the current minimum wage simply isn’t enough to live on.

Alberta is slated to have the second-lowest minimum wage in the country after Prince Edward Island raises their base pay next month.
