Violent gang member being released

The most violent gang member Calgary has ever seen is getting out of jail.

That’s how one police officer describes the situation as Michael Oduneye is set to be released sometime this week.

He’s the man who sprayed the parking lot of Southcentre Mall with bullets eight years ago.

It was two days before Christmas and the mall was full of shoppers.

Oduneye seriously wounded a rival gang member in the shooting and two bullets became lodged in shelves at the Indigo bookstore.

He’s reached the date where he legally has to be released and the National Parole Board can’t keep him in prison.

The Calgary Herald reports the board is enforcing conditions that will keep him in a halfway house under curfew.

He will not be allowed to contact any gang members or associates.
