Calgary’s police chief has issued a stern statement in response to a mayoral candidate’s information about the police budget.
On Thursday, Naheed Nenshi told the media if he was on council in July, he would have questioned Rick Hanson about why our city has the second highest per officer cost in the country.
He is also questioning why the CPS budget has increased by 23 per cent, when the number of officers on the street has increased by only 11 per cent.
In a release, chief Hanson says Nenshi’s information is “inaccurate.”
Nenshi tells 660News he got his information from reviewing the police budget and using numbers from Statistics Canada.
The police chief says “I will not be drawn into a political debate amongst candidates during this election.”
Hanson adds, he’ll be pleased to review the CPS budget with the incoming mayor.
