Calgary’s Public School Board is under fire for its expensive new headquarters.
It’s going to cost about $11-million a year to rent and run the CBE’s new home on 8th Street S.W.
Top officials and trustees are getting set to move in.
A director with real estate company CB Richard Ellis tells The Calgary Herald the board is paying rent that’s about 25 per cent above market value.
He adds that as a taxpayer, he’s concerned about the deal.
The CBE’s Superintendent says the board originally signed the lease for a rent rate that was below market value, but Calgary’s real estate market has taken a dip since then.
