Chinook Centre is expected to be very busy place over the next few weeks, with shoppers stopping by to checkout the mall’s new 180 thousand square foot expansion opening Wednesday.
The $280-million enlargement includes 50 new stores, restaurants and parking.
A local analyst says the project is just the latest in a series of new retail openings in the city and is simply a reflection of what consumers what.
Michael Kehoe with Fairfield Commercial Real Estate tells 660News, the opening of Chinook’s new space is good for all Calgary retailers.
“The stores that are opening now in Calgary this time are driven by consumer demand and will be welcomed by the shopping public,” say Kehoe.
He says don’t expect the new retail competition to drive down prices. Kehoe doubts there will be any deals as we head into the Christmas shopping season, but there should be some serious price slashing in early 2011.
