Consumer Advocate calls for tougher product testing

One consumer advocate is voicing concerns over product testing rules, in the wake of a massive recall from Fisher-Price.

The company is recalling more than 10 million tricycles, toys and high chairs over safety concerns in the U.S. and Canada.

Bruce Cran with the Consumers Association of Canada says the product testing system has a lot of flaws.

He tells 660News laws are ridiculously outdated.

“We’re operating, at the moment, under 30 and 40 year-old legislation,” says Cran.

He blames the companies making the products, saying they’ve become lax with their testing and they are more concerned with their profits than the safety of their customers.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada said Thursday that two of the Fisher-Price products being recalled involved injuries.
