Residents rally on ring road issue

The future southwest leg of the ring road continues to be a source of frustration for people who live in the community of Lakeview.

About 200 people rallied on Saturday, calling on the province to come up with a solution that doesn’t create environmental and social upheaval for the area.

They don’t want the major roadway to run along 37th Street S.W. because of the impact it would have on the established community.

Lakeview Community Association Vice-President Deborah Walsh tells 660News she wants mayoral and aldermanic hopefuls to realize that everyone needs to go back to the drawing board. She says it appears the candidates they are hearing from agree.

She says it’s a big election issue because the entire city cares about North Glenmore Park and the Weaselhead.

More than 5,000 signatures have been collected for a petition that will be delivered to the Legislature in Edmonton.
