Calgarians Are Feeling Less Safe

A new survey shows Calgarians aren’t feeling as safe as they did three years ago.

A poll commissioned by the Calgary Herald finds that back in 2007, 94 percent of respondents felt safe living in Calgary.  This year that number has dropped to 88 percent.

It may be because we’re seeing more transients and homeless people on the street. Some respondents feel the East Village development, and improvements in policing downtown, have pushed the city’s homeless into other areas.

Trevor Harley tells the Herald, he rides into work every day and has noticed over the last few years that the problem is edging toward the beltline.

Police say they’re aware of the situation and are hoping to add more officers to deal with it.
