Campaigns ramping up with just two weeks left

The halfway mark in the civic election has passed and campaigns are kicking into high gear.

In just two weeks, people all across Calgary will be casting their ballots for the next city council.

When it comes to municipal elections it’s all about name recognition and candidates will be hammering out many more signs and advertisements over the next 14 days.

Some mayoral hopefuls are even making some changes to their campaigns.

Naheed Nenshi has purchased a new headquarters; the old office for Kent Hehr who dropped out of the race on nomination day.

According to The Calgary Sun, Craig Burrows and Wayne Stewart are both going to focus their efforts on key demographics like the business crowd, seniors and new Canadians.

Ric McIver says voters should stay tuned for new policy announcements, while Bob Hawkesworth isn’t planning on changing a thing.

With 15 people in the running for mayor, it’s important that candidates distinguish themselves from the others.

“They’ve got to give people enough good information about themselves to make people think they know enough about them to trust them with the mayor’s chair,” Mount Royal University Political Scientist Lori Williams tells 660News.

Williams says there is a large group of voters who are undecided and that could be enough to launch Barb Higgins or Naheed Nenshi past frontrunner Ric McIver.
