Go easy on the turkey dinner this Thanksgiving

Doctors are recommending people think before they eat this Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Dr. Harry Lefebre with Medical Weight Control in Calgary tells 660News it’s easy to pack on the pounds.

Dr. Lefebre has been helping people deal with weight and eating issues for more than 22 years and says overeating is hard on the body.

He says most people will consume more than 2,000 calories while feasting on their turkey dinner with all the fixings, not including cocktails and wine.

To burn off those calories a person would have to spend about three hours on an elliptical trainer or schedule 15 minute walks for the next 45 days.

A pound of fat is only 3,500 calories.

Dr. Lefebre recommends people eat a little something before the big meal and drink some water, which will help curb the appetite.

He also says to pass on a second or third helping and if the host has too many leftovers, take them home and eat them the following day.
