A 21 year old man is facing numerous charges following a bizarre incident around 2:45, Sunday morning, at the Sarcee Trail-Crowchild intersection in the northwest.
Duty Inspector Chris Butler tells 660News a cab driver was t-boned by the driver of a Toyota Camry. When a female witness stopped to offer assistance, she was punched in the face by the man driving the Camry, who then stole her vehicle and fled the scene.
But he wasn’t finished with his escapades. Police say he later crashed the stolen vehicle into a light standard at Silversprings Boulevard and Silver Hills Road before fleeing that scene on foot. Uniformed officers were able to track down the suspect a short time later.
Police say the young man would undergo a breathalyser test, and besides alcohol, they believe the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs.
“He’s going to be facing criminal hit and run charges, robbery and assault charges, impaired driving charges,” says Duty Inspector Butler. “And that’s just the charges that are evident at the surface level. There could well be other charges.”
The cab driver was taken to hospital and is listed in stable condition). The woman attacked at the initial crime scene was treated by EMS at the scene.
Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed any portion of the series of events contact them.
