Flipped semi sparks wild fire

Strong winds gave fire fighters a challenge early Saturday morning as they battled a blaze off the Trans-Canada.

It started just before 4:30 when a semi flipped into the ditch near Jumping Pound Road. The driver escaped as the flames started and spread to the nearby brush.

Rocky View Deputy Fire Chief Doug Pieper tells 660News the fire was pushed by strong wind towards the town of Morley but they were able to contain it.

He says about 35 fire fighters were used from rural detachments.

The fire covered about 20 hectares.
