Summer tourism not the hottest

It wasn’t the worst year for Alberta tourism, but it wasn’t great either.

That from the province’s tourism minister who tells 660News, the weather and the ongoing economic downturn really took a toll on the province’s vacation season.

Cindy Ady says she’s been in contact with many campground operators to gauge how they did over the summer.

“They are basically saying at this point in time that they felt that they held there own considering the weather. Could it have been better with more sunshine, absolutely, absolutely because as Albertans we are not going to go out in the pouring rain usually, but overall they were pleased,” says Ady.

The minister says the ski season should help the province’s tourism numbers.
