Holiday train decked out to roll

As we begin to get our Christmas lights up, staff at the Calgary Food Bank and Canadian Pacific are set to decorate this year’s holiday train.

The locomotive is in town to get all decked out for this year’s campaign which will soon have it rolling to benefit food banks across the country.

Since the recession, Nollind van Bryce with the Calgary Food Bank tells 660News they’ve been dealing with increased demand for emergency food hampers.

“Our client visits are still up, we haven’t seen that turn yet and if we look back to our pre-recession levels, and compare that with now, we’re serving 57 per cent more clients than we were just two years ago,” says van Bryce.

The CP Holiday Train has brought in $4.8 million since it began in 1999 and has generated nearly 2.3 million pounds of food.

It’ll be back for its stop in Calgary December 11th.
