The pay and perks of Enmax board members are being put under the financial microscope.
There are reports the chairman of the board for the city-owned electricity utility makes $180,000 a year.
That’s more than Calgary’s mayor, and doesn’t include the $1,500 he is paid for each meeting he attends.
Plenty of questions about the financial operations of Enmax have been raised lately after revelations that the company’s CEO has hosted private rock star parties at his home, while announcing the cancellation of the staff Christmas party.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he wonders why the total pay of the Enmax board increased by 60 per cent last year and wants to find out if Calgarians are getting good bang for their buck.
Enmax officials will make a presentation to the mayor and council later this week.
The Alberta Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation tells 660News the pay and perks of Enmax board members are pretty much in line with what Capital Power in Edmonton pays out.
But Scott Hennig says those payments are more than 50 per cent higher that what Saskpower in Saskatchewan doles out.
Hennig says what really needs to be done is to improve the accountability and transparency of Enmax.
