Mayor Naheed Nenshi says snow removal this winter will be handled differently under his watch.
However, he says a new report that recommends adding $10(m) million into the snow and ice removal budget may not be the answer.
Nenshi says throwing more money into the budget won’t solve anything unless protocol is changed.
“We need a comprehensive look at what we do on normal snowfalls and what we do on heavy snowfalls and how that’s different then what we do today because clearly what we do today, as what we saw from last winter, is not good enough.”
He also wants to look at introducing “guys with bobcats” into the picture, turning to the private sector for help when city crews are focused on high priority routes.
