New plans for St. Patrick’s Island take shape

We’re getting a better idea of what St. Patrick’s Island will look like after it’s revamped.

The company behind the East Village redevelopment is beginning its master plan for the island in the Bow River lying between the Zoo and Fort Calgary.

The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation surveyed Calgarians about what they want the 30-acre parcel to look like.

President and CEO Chris Ollenberger tells The Calgary Sun respondents told them they wanted better lighting on the island, so they could feel safer.

Other suggestions included an urban beach, boat launch and a space for weddings.

The full project is set to finish in 2013.
