City road crews will be on standby Monday when the snow starts to fall.
It turns out ten million dollars and a few changes to the plan is all we need to vastly improve Calgary’s snow removal program.
Those results are in a new study that will be going before alderman on the city’s audit committee Monday.
By spending the extra ten million dollars, city side streets could be plowed on a timely basis. That doesn’t mean going down to bare pavement, but it would help people more easily navigate residential streets.
The extra cash would raise the cities snow removal budged closer to 30 million dollars, which is still a bargain when compared to Edmonton, which spends 47 million bucks to keep the streets clear.
The audit report also recommends a basic overhaul to the existing system, like adjusting the routes and how plows are deployed to clear snow.
Any changes to the strategy and any extra money need to be approved by the committee and City Council, and would be included in the upcoming budget.
