Local party rental and event planning companies predict a rather sombre mood in Corporate Calgary this year during the upcoming holiday season.
Christmas functions are being scaled back again this year.
But the owner of Simply Elegant, Robert Vidra, says he believes employees understand a paycheque is more important than a party.
“People are recognizing that their lives are pretty good and they have jobs, and everybody is getting by,” he says.
The president of The Event Group, Dave Howard, believes as the economy improves, bigger parties won’t be far behind.
“They (companies) see the need to reward their employees. I just think there will be a shift in the way they do that,” he says.
Both Howard and Vidra say while the traditional sit-down Christmas dinner party might be disappearing, more socials and mixers are popping up.
