There is a new director of Animal Care at the Calgary Zoo.
Dr. Jake Veasey hails from England and brings with him ten years of experience as Head of Animal Management and Conservation at Woburn Safari Park.
He has also served as an advisor to the UK government on zoo animal welfare.
The scientists and conservationist is walking into a tough post, after numerous animal deaths at the zoo over the last few years.
Dr. Veasey says his decision to move here was a big one but he feels he can make a difference in our city.
“I’ve only been in Calgary a few days and am just beginning to find my feet at the zoo, meet my team and get to know the city and its weather! My focus is to ensure the highest possible standards of care are in place and to accelerate the rate of change to help the Calgary Zoo become the centre of excellence.”
