Alberta’s energy minister has kissed and made up with the head of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors.
It’s over a leaked letter sent early this year in which Ron Liepert questioned why he and other Tory MLA’s were invited to an event that headlined Wildrose Alliance leader Danielle Smith.
Liepert admits his letter didn’t need to be so strongly worded, but he points out it came at the height of tension between the industry and government as the province considered changing the royalty framework.
“If I hadn’t of responded in some way, and ensured that my colleagues knew that I responded in some way, they had some questions about whether we should be looking at significant changes.”
The two men appeared together Friday at a news conference in Calgary and Liepert said it was “a silly little situation” that needed to be addressed.
