Police still crunching numbers

Even though the city budget has been passed, the police department is still being asked to find savings. The Police Commission met Friday and has directed the department to go over their budget line-by-line to try and find where more cuts can be made.
Police Commission Chair Mike Shaikh tells CTV it’s a tough job, but a necessary one. He adds the city is in a tough time and all departments have to make the cuts and that they need to do their part as well.
The department has been asked by council to find an additional $2 million dollars in savings. A report will be submitted prior to the next meeting in late January which will also include the impacts of any potential cuts.
